Spring showers always brought her some sort of delight. The air smelt fresh and alive, and the grass was soggy and soft underfoot, making her constant moving comfort and a pleasure. Earlier that day she had watched the dark clouds roll in from some distant mountains, never once thundering like they did when she was a child in her comfortable valley prison, and not once did a drop fall on her while she waited. It was almost midday by the time the showers were upon her, and she had taken to wandering meadows of lilac and lavender, occasionally turning so to make wide berth around a patch of prickly thistle here and there.
And then it happened. The sky cracked open and spilt forth its belly full of water, leaving Liit to turn her pale face to the sky and stare in disbelief. She had been waiting for hours for the rain, and here it happened so suddenly. There had been no warning but for the impending shadow that loomed over her from the clouds overhead. As the smattering of raindrops was heard all around her, it suddenly dawned on the mare that she was flushed out in the open, stuck in the middle of a foreign field, and likely to be thoroughly doused, as it seemed unlikely that the rains would let up soon.
So she turned her eye to the nearest tree, a proud red oak that stood defiantly in the middle of the field. Good enough. Moving with haste towards it, the pale mare did not think to check that this tree was unoccupied, and more interested in getting out of the rain. By the time she made it to the tree, her skin smelt of warm, wet, flesh and her hair stuck rather ungracefully to her neck and legs. Not for a moment did Liit think that she was entirely alone in this field, and as she shook out her head (while listening to the sullen slap of wet hair hitting her skin), she turned about to face the wide opening and narrowed her eyes to see if she could see anyone else trying to get out of the rain.
