The fiery, scorched lands of Helovia's Heart did not hold the key to their quest, and so the sisters continued onwards with their searching, following the trail of the Sun's westerly descent to the horizon. Through the Thistle Meadow they trekked, though they did not linger there, having a more finite destination in mind. The Endless Blue, truly the edge of Helovia, stared out across the western sea, only a small rim of the Spectral Marshes jutted further out. Sand tickled their fetlocks, heat from the day radiated from the earth beneath them, though it was fading fast. Sunset defined the downfall of the Sun, a sunset that Mirage noticed made even her sister's dark eyes glow with the strong, intense colours of the sky above them as it was swallowed up by the horizon. They had been travelling far today, across most of Helovia, and would continue to travel further still, until they uncovered this place that the Moon Goddess deemed to be the source of the dark. Salty air invaded her nostrils, the charred mare looked to her sister again, a small, comradely smile adorning her façade. Even if they never completed the quest, the time had reaffirmed the bond that was between them, something that was rewarding in itself. Akaith flew above them, encouraging Kali to do the same with gentle trills and chirrups. Amusement bubbled forth within the mare, for the dragon always enjoyed their visits to this beach. The dragon and griffon tumbled through the sky together, their forms outlined against the darkening sky. Mirage looked out over the horizon, watching as the final curve of the Sun disappeared, and twilight overcame the lands. "Perhaps the end of the earth also signifies the end of the light - the beginning of the dark." It was a question, posed as a statement. Her voice was quiet, her ears alert, as she awaited a sign from either her sister or the powers above. |
