The Goddess of the Moon had decided that it was time for her son to have direction. Too long had he wandered far from the strong, judgmental stare of his father, and the white mare who had adopted him was weak and ineffectual. The boy needed strong, firm guidance. He needed to understand just how truly special and powerful he was. What lay inside his heart was a darkness so black, it could consume the world. If only he would use it, but the heart managed to get in the way.
That is why she had destroyed hers long ago. In the place of a beating organ was a chasm, deep and treacherous.
So, the process had to be slow. One could not ignore a heart so beautiful as his so easily. But with time, he would learn to be the great being he could be. Everything had to be secret. Even though she had plenty of evidence of her fiery brother taking his dead daughter under his wing, teaching her of her powers, she would be scrutinized more heavily. As for the God of Time? She never knew what he was up to, and she hated him for that.
"Mesec, follow," she murmured, stepping out of the darkness in which she had been teaching him, onto the rocky precipice of the gods, teetering over crashing waves that seemed miles below. If she had a heart, the vertigo would wrench it, but as it were... "You saw what you were able to control there, son. Only you have power over the night, the shadows, the places no one dark to look out of fear. You control the darkness, and this power should give you the confidence you seek. No mortal can take from you what is yours. You are just as much of my blood as theirs, hm?"
