Mesec allowed the shadows to cling to them though he lingered further, her voice rooting him to the spot. That twisting feeling in his heart, in his gut made worse by her sentiment. He would treasure this, their closeness, and it was easy enough to believe her in this moment that she meant what she said. That she would be there for him seemed too good to be true. He might have questioned it if the next thing to happen did not take him totally by surprise: She smiled!

Or, well, she tried. On no one else would that grimace be even remotely considered a smile but Mesec knew what it was to be frowned at by his mother. This… this was something else. She was trying and she was trying for him - which was certainly good enough for the moonlight child.

Surprising him even further, she gave him a gift. A talisman so that he could contact her, thoroughly dismissing any doubts he might have had in her words just moments ago. He's so thankful for this, that he has been given this chance to call upon her and not just hope that she might hear his prayers whispered in the darkness and to the moon. A soft whicker served as his thanks now, shaking his head lightly so that the talisman jingled as it thumped against his horn, before repeating his favourite phrase with a confident smile. "I'm not alone." He would try to remember that, certainly.

Later, maybe, he would question this uncharacteristic sentiment - wonder if maybe she knew something was on the horizon, but for now the youth only saw a connection he had been wanting to forge. "I'll miss you, mother. Take care of yourself."
