Darkness overwhelms the light. How could it not, when light itself casts the shadows?

In a more real sense, the dark veil of oncoming unconsciousness, or more properly, oncoming death swam before the light blue gaze of the lion. The world was tilted as he lay on his side, gradually bleeding out into the pool that already began to ebb against his hide. The dust had since settled, and the pegasus foe lay in similar shape not far away, but that mattered little now.

Whiskers twitched as Ra blinked against the light of the day, his heart longing for the cool, gentle touch of the night and the last glow of the moon for him to see. A low, unpleasant growl rasped in his chest, the sound having difficulty in edging around the steel blade that remained lodged in his ribs. Paws flexed and stretched at the rolling, red hills he saw arching around him. He imagined he was was running through them, fleeing them. He wanted to run to the Heavenly Fields, to bathe in the silver light of his lovely moon and talk with her until all the stars fell from the sky and turned to the flowers that he'd lay in.

Instead he would die here. Here in this dusty, dirty, barren wasteland of the Sun's. The light was bright and hot, pressing like a weight against his already sweat soaked flesh.

The blackness dipped. His focus blurred. Another complaining wheeze tumbled from his maw as he fought the inevitable.
