The dove had been through a lot in her relatively short life, and for too long she had allowed her emotions to drive her actions. She had ruled her life with a weak heart, falling through the sky on melted wings after flying too close to the sun, plummeting farther and farther from the light in favor of taking the easy way out and succumbing to the darkness.

But things change. Life goes on.

And so it goes, ever forward and ever upward, the world continuously spinning onward without the slightest care, despite any one individual's universe coming to a complete halt, falling apart, going to pieces with no hope of reassembling into anything making the slightest bit of sense. And so her world had kept on turning, even after she was sure that nothing would ever be the same again.

Change is natural, and it's not always bad. Indeed, her life had taken a turn for the better. She had wondered, naturally, had been skeptical of not only her abilities but her place in the world without the definition of "so-and-so's mate," but she had been pleasantly surprised by the former and more than happy to shed the latter. Now she stood proudly on her own four hooves, known for only her own skills, her own wants, her own goals. Never again would she allow herself to fall prey to someone else's whims.

And she would protect those who couldn't say the same.

She wanted to do more. She wanted to be more. There were so many wrongs in this land - no, in this world - and though she knew she could not hope to right them all, she found herself with a newfound determination to do all that she could, she had been too selfish for too long. No more. It was time to step up, to prove her worth, to be the leader that she had become. It was time to grow up. And, for once, she thought she knew the path she needed to take.
