Ladies? He considered her playful question with a quietly tilted skull and a generous smile. No The constant necessity to train, spar and patrol left little room to dabble in the pools of emotion; in the callous world feminine wiles. Hector had secured one a long time ago, but he’d been young, inexperienced and mostly infatuated by her conniving beauty. Only hollowness lingered in her wake and there was a sickening void in his memory where the maturing faces of two babes should have been. He chuckled, a deep, rumble rising from his chest. "Nay sister, I am a poor lonely soul." The stallion appreciated her sense of humour and dipped his horned skull grimly, unable though to clear his expression enough to pull off the plight. Instead he coughed a little, clearing his throat, and explained, "There is no time in a soldiers life spare enough for such luxuries." It was just a handy coincidence that Sikeax had been gifted as his partner this season, and he felt already warmed to her fair company.

The young mare shuffled beneath him, organising herself where his shadow fell thick, and Hector did his best to accommodate her- wary naturally of that weapon wielded by her lovely face. As she stepped to lead from their cover by the edge of the water, he drew a breath. Scout the area, he told silently his bonded Boggart, not confident with the knowledge held about the area. He’d travelled much of Helovia, but the copper hybrid had favoured apparently those regions to the east, much closer to home. Veci slipped from their presence quickly then, a breath lost upon the breeze.

Hector followed the honey-hued mare at a comfortable distance, respectfully so, though she seemed to harbour his presence in good faith and not hurry ahead. Steady cups listened as she spoke, intrigued. Perhaps one day she would tend to him with her skills, the herbs mentioned (though he knew nothing of the art of healing and imagined such only to be tasty fodder). A soldier’s work was not without its dangers, and the army relied heavily on those gifted menders to return their health quickly. Thoughtfulness glazed his eyes as they focused ahead, unintentionally fixing across the gently oblivious swing of her narrow, young hips. "A simple soldier." He answered when she returned the question. Nothing nearly as magical. He didn’t mind though. It was a service he gave both willingly and devotedly. He was grateful to the Resolute for all that she’d done for him, and though his heart did tire of the toils of war; his mind weary for constant need to better himself, he honoured the confidence she’d instilled in him with loyalty.

As they trekked on through the tangles of vine and velvet furred ferns, the light grew still dimmer and the cool accent of her horn brighter. Though it wasn’t nearly as stark as the glory of the sun, Hector was pleased by its aid and grateful all the more that Sikeax was with him. The coppery giant wasn’t intimidated by any stretch of the imagination- there were far darker, more ominous places for a Pegasus warrior to cross, but he wasn’t fool enough to dismiss help offered. The grove was silent, save for the natural chorus of the night, and the occasional crunch of a misjudged step.
