This was where it all began and where it would all end. The heart of Helovia, an ever burning hole to the center of the earth. He remembered a time, long ago, when this hole spewed forth all the heat and destruction he could manage, forming and shaping the land with his brother, the Earth. Once, he was needed. Once, when the world was still raw and forming - when the three had been born and claimed this land as theirs to rule.

Now, he was unneeded, and the God of the Sun stood at the mouth of the pit, golden eyes closed and face painted with an expression of serenity. He hummed an old tune that shook the bowels of the fiery place, sending long tendrils of smoke and flashes of flame into the midnight sky. Even among the stars, the God's golden coat shone like fire, beautiful, terrible and violent.

Nothing about his nature could lend itself to selfless gentleness or calm; he was light and fire, blinding and violent. Certainly aspects of him could be used for good, but mostly, destruction. Still, what would they do if he ceased to bring the day? If he never once allowed fire to warm their hearts and bodies during the blanket of Frostfall? They would all die, and he was tempted to let it be so.

But even with his rage against this land that he had formed, the God knew that he could never watch these new, diverse creatures suffer under the bitterness of a never ending winter; his heart still held a soft mourning for the brief period where none but a few resided among the mountains the he had raised up, or the oceans that he had dug out. The new residents were inspiring just as they were maddening.

He had gone too far with his anger, and he waited, able to feel the looming presence of his fucked up family lingering on his conscience. The God continued to hum, eyes closed, resting quietly near the heart of it all.
