The atmosphere around them, between them,
shared bore no animosity. Hector felt quite at ease as he travelled along by the flank of the desert mare, a rare feeling generally, unless striding to the battlefront with brothers-in-arms. The art of sociability was something he was not terribly practiced in, and he appreciated immensely that she wished not to delve into any fathomless conversation. Her personality, he thought idly, was as easy-going as the fluid stride beneath her.
They walked for a long time, but it passed relatively quickly. Sikeax never dawdled despite the lesser length of her dark legs, and she guided them north- beyond the western border of World’s Edge and still further north to where ice bleached the night-shrouded land, and trees thinned to almost nothing. Hector knew they were near to the Basin, but he remained untroubled, vigilant and prepared, but relaxed all the same. The Arch was not a landmark he often felt the need to visit- it lay well past the lofty mountain field above the Falls, cold and uninviting, and he wondered why it had called his young company now; what relevance the bitter world of blizzards and tundra held in her life.
Thoughtful, sun-gold eyes lifted towards the starry heavens and he sighed, shivering, coat thin to accommodate preferentially the blistering heat of their sandy, baked home. He thought it was marvellous that such a place could hold its temperature even beneath the intensity of late Tallsun- Hector cared not for it personally, but a steady respect grow through his wandering mind. He turned and smiled, noticing right away that she was searching, and not the way they had been looking together through the Grove for anything worth reporting back with when they returned to the Throat.
The copper giant didn’t want to pry. He had no intention of spooning out deep set emotions that might have been motivation for this journey.
"Can I help you search?" he asked her gently, pressing warm, steamy breath near to her shoulder. Perhaps it would be easier if four eyes were hunting through the darkness instead of just her own.
