ULRIK the ENGINEER

The Engineer was incredibly intelligent, playing his chess game many moves ahead. Even though he spoke like a neanderthal and had the dead stare of a rock, his mind was ever moving. He had been honest with her about the purpose of the Scorpion, but it's uses were not for her, they were for him. She carried the machine around, a machine he created and could control. Since it lived inside of her land, he could recall it at any time to let him inside those thick, glass walls they had built in his former home.

The dirty blooded, dragon-bitch had taken it away from all of them, and he had not forgiven or let go. Of course he managed to get along without murderous thoughts taking over his head, but he was always planning. One day, he would see the forest restored to the unicorns, but he would have to wait. He didn't mind waiting. That only made revenge all the more sweet.

She was also incredibly wrong about having kinship with him in any way. Ulrik would never see her as anything more than a hornless pawn, useful to use but never held in any high esteem. Pitiful, that she was born so ordinary, but creation genetics was not his concern. Maybe, one day, she would agree to a false horn implanted on her brow to make her pretty, but he doubted someone who lead a herd of blasphemy cared much about being a nobler species.

Ulrik had been swept here by a cloud and informed by someone in the herd that he had barely been listening to. But, the beautiful tent here and the lively activity was interesting enough to watch. Sure, he preferred his solitude, but watching the endless hustle and bustle of ants build for nothing was also entertaining. Everything was futile, except the recreation of nature itself, really. The Engineer was caught off guard as he stood and stared near the tent entrance by a mewling call of his name.

Ulrik raised a brow, not used to hearing such petulant tones say anything toward him, let alone his name. Even the children managed to grow a spine in his presence lest he stare them down with crushing judgement. So, when he walked out of the shadow and saw Kahlua standing there, with the broken metal scorpion laying helplessly in a basket, he felt... amused. The Engineer stared at her with a half-smile. "So it finally broke?" he asked.
