An eager bob was his only response to his declaration that he would visit. Kahlua silently hoped that it would help make up some of the… distance that had come between her and Dragomir. She still hadn’t figured out what it was that had come between them, what had caused them to separate and be acquaintances rather than friends. It would require a year’s worth of pondering that she didn’t have to deal with, but maybe with gifts and friendship she could win back some of the closeness that they had once had.

As for Ulrik’s stiff and surprised stance, if Kahlua hadn’t been so wrapped up in her whirlwind of emotions and chaos she might have noticed. As it was, she only noticed the distinct lack of a physical response to her touch. No nose upon her neck or draped over her withers, no touch to her forehead, no rush of air against her skin. All would have been perfectly acceptable responses, in the paint’s mind, but none were there. Her only response was a cold, curt sounding of her name. She stepped back, finally noticing his stiffened posture, smiling sheepishly and unsuccessfully trying to hold back a giggle. “Oh,” she offered, stepping cautiously backwards until she had returned to the side of her basket.

Giggling again, she added, “Sorry.” With a sidelong glance to the peahen, to see what she thought of all the chaos, Kahlua returned her gaze to the Engineer and bowed her head. “Thank you so much,” she responded more appropriately then, as the song the Engineer had created continued to twinkle along in the background- her song. She loved it, clearly. Still, as much as she desired to linger longer, to stay and chat more with this magnificent beast about his trade and all of the finer points about why crafting was obviously the best profession, she decided it might be best for her head and his patience if she afforded him some space. It was, perhaps, the first good choice she had made all morning.

“I hope to see you again soon,” she finished, bowing her head to him again before collecting her basket and turning to retreat to the safety of her own tent. It seemed best she enjoy her new gift there, under the safety of the midnight fabric, where she couldn’t effuse all over whatever unsuspecting horse might be standing nearest to her.
