The mother bear grunted with satisfaction as one heavy paw hit her target. The strange, overbearing light only added to her frustration. She continued to lash out blindly at the obnoxious creatures. The faint blur and sense of movement of the painted Unicorn approached her front. With more wild swipes, the bear aimed for the mare's vague presence.

The sound of heavy hoof-beats announced the arrival of yet another wretched horse. Without her vision, the bear was taken off guard as the stallion rammed into her side. The force of the hit sent her stumbling sideways, but not fast enough to avoid a sharp cut from the Unicorn's horn. The bear matriarch bellowed out in pain. She had not expected to be attacked by so many of these mere prey animals, and certainly not without her eyesight. More thrums of hoof-steps sounded closer and closer. In defeat, she bounded heavily away from the horses. She was confused and her wounded hide stung, reminding her that she had to survive. Her young cubs needed her alive.
