THERE'S A STORM WARNING JUST FOR YOU

Surroundings: Dragon's Throat - near the oasis
Time: Afternoon
Season: Frostfall

Restrictions: None
Timeline: Regular

The days had become surprisingly regular faster than Ampere could have imagined. It almost felt like nothing was wrong in life, that she hadn't fucked up, that the gods and the herd and everyone else didn't hate her, and that all around the world, tiny lives weren't suffering. All she had to do was stay here in the safety of the Dragon's Throat, ignoring the disgust which rose whenever she saw companions perched on shoulders like it wasn't an act of depravity. She had been, for the sake of smiles and friendship, and because just being disgusted and angry and yelling at them accomplished nothing int he way of helpfulness.

It actually felt... nice, aside from the churning in her gut and the heaviness in her heart. It was doable at least, and even if she was betraying herself and her namesake, she was happy, wasn't she? It felt like it could be happiness. She had a home, an actual home, and friends. Well, maybe a friend, but it was better than before, that was for sure. She had duties now, but she was free, in her own way.

Lies, some part of her hissed. It was quiet and in a way, frail, but it was heard and felt nonetheless.

Ampere closed her eyes, swimming in a world of darkness for a moment as she plodded casually through the sands. Her hooves were too lazy to pick themselves up all the way, so she sprayed sand with each stride. It mixed in her fetlocks and kind of itched, but it was a good kind of itch, the kind that reminded her she was alive and that this place was real and that nothing was perfect.
Nothing's perfect.

In some ways it suggested to her that this place wasn't the home boasting friends and freedom that she wanted; it came with that same, meek, though defiant voice. Yet just as easily she turned it around, back against herself, and used it to justify that the fight for companions would never be perfect either. They would never be free, would they?

She shook her head, blue eyes steadily shedding their lids to peer through the bright landscape of sun and sand, sand, sand. She was walking, because the oasis was just a couple steps away and she had finished her last patrol. Maybe after she got her drink she should get back on her wings and fly, it always helped cleared her head, though lately it hadn't. She just kept thinking about Sohalia and the God of the Earth and everything and at the same time absolutely nothing.

She stopped, sand sprinkling into the water's edge as she carried it with her. frustration prickled in the back of her head with a rising headache. She wanted to blame it on the sun, but this time of year it wasn't really a viable excuse, so rather than admitting she was angry at herself and confused with herself she ran away from it by plunging her head into the oasis. She drank great, heavy droughts, just like you weren't supposed to. Maybe she could drown out her thoughts. Couldn't hurt to try.
