A southern wind picks up abruptly. It is cold and fierce, and even dark. It brings forth a feeling of unease and anxiety bordering on panic. Something is wrong. Something is wrong.

A snake tumbles from the treetops with a solid thud. That in and of itself is a peculiar thing, because there is no jungle to welcome snakes with an affinity to heights. That however, hardly stands out compared to the fact the serpent is eating its own tail.

Its stomach is engorged with its own flesh. Its color is off hue, faded beneath the bright crimson of its blood, drawn by its fangs sunken into its sides. Disturb it and it will only reconvene, unphased by the act it commits, though occasionally it does twitch, as if in pain.

Like worms from the woodwork more snakes tumble from the trees and slide out of the fog. Each one, once seen by the horses, proceeds to begin its self consumption. All the while the fog drifts in heavy and the trees sway furiously under the harrowing winds. One branch can no longer take it and snaps off, thundering down right towards the horses and the snakes.

It falls with a shudder of wood upon the serpents, crushing them all.

The wind stops. The fog drifts back into its usual state. The eerie feeling subsides, other than the lingering memory of what just occurred.
