Fear, panic and distress do not grip her quite so suddenly as one might expect; instead, there was shock, adrenaline quickly shooting through her veins. Her long, peppered face jerked abruptly into the air; slender nape hoisted erect between her shoulders; every muscle tightened and held tense beneath her thick, roaned hide. The feline's predatory screech had elicited some ancient response of fight or flight within her, and it would appear as though it was too late to assume the latter: to flee.
