Thrilled by his own success the mountain lion held on to the larger beast, his claws digging deep into the flesh of the mare and causing blood to ooze out over his paws. The scent urges him on, he tries to cling on to her neck; the wild thrashing makes him sway violently where he hangs, while the powerful hind legs reach up beneath her, attempting to slash with large claws on the underside of her belly. Should he manage her insides might split open and thus assure his victory; no one could go very far with their intestines spilling out over the pristine beach.

The air is cool, the weather splendid and warm, but the young male takes no notice. He is too occupied by the fact that his pray is managing to shake herself loose. The grip of the claws began to slip; he growls in discontent as her wing breaks free from beneath him. The jerk as she takes to the air shakes him off entirely and he falls down, landing elegantly on all fours, unscathed albeit a bit confused. How did she do that? Birds flew out of reach, but she didn't look like any bird the feline had ever seen. He was pleased to note that she didn't fly far however; her impact on the ground somewhat in front of him gave him new courage, and boosted the launch of the second charge.

He hadn't counted on the attack. When he saw the kick come towards him he was at first surprised, and then instincts kicked in to save his life. The cat shied to the right, howling in pain as a hard hoof smacked right into the front of the left shoulder. The pain shot down through the leg, angering the young predator even further; he leaped once again, lifting himself from the ground not unlike the mare had done, this time attempting to latch on to the large muscle that made up her buttock. He cared not for the threat of the powerful legs, he was hungry and in pain and wanted this horse to go down, so that he could stake all the fires that burned beneath the thick golden pelt.
