What defeat she felt. Had her wing not been broken in the first place that traumatic day in the desert of the Dragon's Throat, she would not still be trapped in this position, combating a talented, powerful, predatory animal. Unluckily for him, though, a horse was equipped with powerful haunches, a prime weapon against such animals as this and alluded with a strength perhaps not evident until a blow is finally dealt.

Maybe it had known this by some primal instinct, but it insisted on leaping toward her backside regardless, albeit obliquely. This hadn't prevented her from pivoting to the left, her aft legs aimed for the creature's chest, a fair contrivance of force allocated with the attack. She was confident if it were to connect he might be dissuaded from pursuing her farther, but then again feral animals were hard to predict and reasonably cunning. If it were to land upon her back or rump, that was a different story. She dreaded that idea.

Her attack met nothing but thin air. She had kicked too late.

It was then that a stallion appeared, seemingly out of nowhere. All relief she felt was short lived as the cougar managed to gain purchase upon her back, her greatest fear materialized.

Bucking and flailing around much like a hooked marlin, she desperately sought to rid it from her body, just as she had done before. She then did the last thing she knew to do, just in case he had not yet been dislodged: roll, crush the beast beneath her weight. She paid little heed to the equine, which she highly doubted he would be too offended by.
