trust your heart if the
seas catch fire

How thankful she was for this stallion to arrive. Had he not, who knows what might've happened to her. She was injured, like a bird with a broken wing - almost literally. The bone was obviously snapped - an old wound reintroduced. Even stimulated with a significant dose of adrenaline, she could feel it in the back of her mind, like a clarion cry uttered through the vast, chiseled slabs of a ravine - diminished to a mere echoing whisper.

Adrenaline, her body's natural defense against pain, had managed to effectively numb her nerves a bit. Meanwhile, thick, encrimsoned fluid oozed slowly from her afflictions, creeping down her roaned form like some sort of internal lava, the source burning with a dilute fire. Her wounds seemed to weep, but it wasn't her primary concern.

Ever present in her thoughts was her child, as was understandable for a pregnant mare. Could a loss of blood affect the fetus? She was not extremely far in her pregnancy, her flanks just barely evidencing her current physical state. The concern was veiled behind a facade of concentration and anger. Snorting and thrusting her head upward violently, her forelegs followed suit by lifting modestly off the ground, a response to the creature's threatening claws as they swatted toward her. And once parallel with the earth once again, the mistress bowed her head and pawed fiercely toward the feline, not necessarily aiming to hit it; instead, threaten it, convince it that it was outnumbered, outmatched.

The last thing she wanted to do was kill it. It seemed wrong to punish in animal in such a way, when it was only doing what nature had designed it to do. In a parallel fashion, however, she knew she was not about to serve as this animal's lunch. Could such a fierce predator possess the capacity to reason? These things seemed to plague her thoughts.
