Bucephalus soared over the desert below, his form merely a black speck from above, the desert heat churning out thermals even with the faint chill from winter's breath. Bucephalus had awoken at his usual time to greet the Dawnwind for his usual ritual when he decided it would be wise to learn the winds of this desert if it was to become his home. And boy did he love it. While lower to the ground the winds were sluggish, lethargic, high above they were wild, turbulent in their play as he fought to stay within one windstream. With a faint laugh the stallion tipped his wings forward, dropping a few feet to catch the next wind, hardly even flapping as the current hurled him across the land. Smoke in the distance caught his attention, along with a huge rippling heat mirage. Curious, Bucephalus tilted his wings and turned, flying towards the smoke. It was new, and he had nowhere important to be as of yet. Before long the stallion had to dive down, landing on the hard clay and soil, hooves clattering. The heat was intense as he approached the source, but his curiosity got the better of him as he cautiously approached the edge of a giant hole. He could only stand to be that close for a mere heartbeat, long enough to catch a glimpse of the pulsing, gurgling lava that filled the depression before he was forced to retreat to a cooler distance. By this point he would have welcomed the bitter cold of the Threshold, a faint gleam of sweat glistening on his ebony hide as he turned to launch back into the air. But this time it was a crack in the earth that caught his attention; there was a well-worn path, and upon close inspection he could faintly make out the depression of hooves. So, others came here before him(not that he believed he discovered this, but due to the heat didn't expect anyone to really come). That was enough to convince him to follow the faint trail into the opening, descending down into the earth. It was there that Buce discovered something new... he hated caves. It was dark, the air felt damp, and he could feel the walls on either side of him. He paused halfway down the shaft, eyes rolling slightly as he turned his head to look at the entrance. None was here to think the lesser of him if he fled out this cave as fast as he could... save himself. Giving himself a light shake, the black stallion continued on, hooves tapping out a single note as he headed in deeper. The cool damp of the cave quickly grew humid, and Buce's ears pinned back at that. Suddenly the stone beneath him crumbled, and with a bellow he skidded down a steep slope, wings instinctively spreading as much as they could in the growing space before he was unceremoniously dumped on his rear in a large cavern. Quickly scrambling to all fours, he forced himself to calm and take in his surroundings. It wasn't until he did a double take that the beauty of the cave hit him like a boulder. Spiraling figures of stone, twisted like unicorn horns, sprouted from the floor and ceiling. The gleaming wall of crystal that barred the way from the lava had him spellbound for a moment as he approached it, feeling the heat pulse out from the other side, but unlike how it was above, he felt no discomfort.
