If the death of the mare on the island was supposed to have made him question his mortality, he had certainly failed miserably as a philosopher. Truth be told, he was much more interested in the details of the crime scene. Black hair, black hair… Black hair that did not belong to the fallen pegasus- a clue left behind by someone who had not wanted to be found. It is this that the half-child is pondering when he is interrupted by someone who is, quite decidedly, not Erebos.

Cautiously, he turns to look at her, not entirely invested in listening to the words she has to say. Instead, he is studying her, curious. She has wings- very clearly- but he remembers being told rather plainly that only unicorns were allowed. After all, that is why he and Zunden had concocted a story, a tale, a fiction- a dead unicorn mother, instead of the living equine one they actually have. The second thing he notices is the tribal marking around her eye. Furrowing his brow, he turns back to look at Tobias, confirming that the markings were similar, but not at all the same. Not sure what to make of this information, and realizing that he isn’t exactly sure how to answer her since he wasn’t listening in the first place, he says the first thing that comes to mind. “You’re not allowed to be here.”

He says it plainly, no sign of disgust in his voice, the way a scientist states his findings as fact, as though it is perfectly reasonable to tell strangers they don’t belong where they are standing (or in this case, living). He has found Ophelia’s advice, that he does not have to make everyone like him, rather freeing. Truth be told, he actually admires Aithniel’s wings, as it reminds him of a conversation he had with Erebos some seasons ago, but that is as far as his admiration for her goes. Why must he enter these lands under a guise if she is welcome to be here without (for surely everyone else can see her wings too)?

Perhaps fortunately for him, he cannot take his considerations or his conversation with the filly any farther. His friend finishes his approach, calling the half-child’s name and (apparently) hers as well. “There was a dead pegasus on the island. There were black hairs all around her.” he states matter-of-factly, eyes momentarily flashing towards Aithniel’s wings before returning to his friend. Already in his young life he has known death, so this one does not bother him any more than his father’s did. It is just like everything else in life… a mystery to be solved. “We’re supposed to figure out who did it.” Frowning, he waits for a response, wondering what Erebos will think. He hopes his friend will agree to the task, this will be a difficult task on his own.
