“In a world filled with hate, we must still dare to hope. In a world filled with anger, we must still dare to comfort. In a world filled with despair, we must still dare to dream. And in a world filled with distrust, we must still dare to believe.”
― Michael Jackson

Rei trotted through the Threshold giggling brightly at the feeling of sending the snow flying. It would brush against her back and face before falling back to the ground. Mischievously she spread her wings and began to pump them up and down sending the lightly packed snow around her spiraling into the air. The pegasus and the snow romped together oblivious to the frigid air. Rei had once again began to clumsily frolic through the snow while still steadily keeping the snow in a dance to the beat of her wings and hooves.

Rei knew that she was behaving in a foal-like manner but this year was her first Frostfall that was laced with the experience of snow and it filled her with a young minded wonder. The hardship of winter had not laid an icy finger upon her warm heart.

Coming out into a clearing disappointment slowed her and eventually brought her play to a halt as she came to the end of the pristine snow. Seemingly eager to retreat to its resting place the snowflakes rode the whistling breeze back to where the play had began. The mare had came to the snow that was well traveled leaving it a darkened well packed mess. Her mottled nostrils flared wide drinking in air into her winded body. Rei had been so wrapped up in her play that she hadn't realized she was tiring herself out. Just as she managed to satisfy her hard worked lungs there was a familiar smell that beckoned to her and sent her hooves to moving as quickly as her nose would guide her.

Soon enough she was also able to follow her eyes; using the dark trail of ebony that stained the blanketed land. Even as she followed the trail Rei nearly passed by the one she had been searching for. He was a deeper color than that of the winter's night. A silhouette against the ivory snow he looked like a shadow that had lost its way. And with the strange magical land Helovia had shown itself to be Rei would not have been surprised to find herself escorting a lonely shadow to its worried owner. But the stallion was eating, and she had not yet seen a shadow have a bedtime snack. Plus the smell that enveloped the stranger was one that Rei would never mistake for anything else; he was coated in the smell of ink.

Whinnying in greeting she called attention to her presence. Feeling guilty for possibly tearing him from his makeshift meal Rei lowered her head in a polite dip. Please don't think of me as being bossy. Please don't think of me as being bossy. Her eyes were scrunched up in her silent prayer for acceptance.

Slightly spreading her right wing Rei dipped one of her primary feathers in the ink the stallion had left in his wake. Lightly biting her lip in concentration the spotted pegasus wrote out the characters for a traditional greeting in Lytninia translating to: "Hello friend!".

Realizing that it was unlikely he would know how to read the Lytninian written language she also quickly added a doodle of a pegasus and an equine touching noses in a universal symbol of greeting and friendship. With her eyes alight with the joy in finding another who possibly shared her interest in written symbols.

"My grandfather taught me. He said that knowing how to write was an art form that must never be forgotten. He and I used to spend countless hours together as student and teacher before I was morphed into a filly after his own heart. Now I too cannot help but be in love with writing." She looked from the stallion to the puddles of ink that rested at his hooves and tail. "What you have is certainly a gift! I have to find the right berries and dirt to create my ink. It takes me ages to get it just right."

OOC: Blu, I adore your characters. Each of them is so well written and original!
