“In a world filled with hate, we must still dare to hope. In a world filled with anger, we must still dare to comfort. In a world filled with despair, we must still dare to dream. And in a world filled with distrust, we must still dare to believe.”
― Michael Jackson

Rei could barely form words around her grin. The corners of her mouth twitched in protest at the size of her smile. He came to life before her. It was like watching an ember grow into a dancing flame.

A blush spread across Rei's mottled face as he studied her; it felt as if he was memorizing and taking note of every detail. How she hoped that she looked good.

His excitement was contagious and Rei reveled in his company, she hoped to spend plenty of time with him. Encouraged by his response she started to draw another picture but someone else approached to greet the newcomer who nearly jumped out of his skin at whoever approached.

Sorrow filled her eyes and furrowed her brow. The way he had shied away from another Helovian's entrance made her want to jump to defend him. Momentarily Rei's ears flipped back until she recognized Ghost.

Watching spellbound Rei was entranced by how the ebony stallion became lost in his art. Each of his strokes was that of a master. Her grandfather would have adored this stallion. Had they met he probably would have found her grandfather dragging him into endless conversations about the written art and its forgotten values. A smile lit her face at the thought.

Confidence seemed to fill him once more as he crafted a story in the form of pictures before their eyes. He still had not said a word and used his pictures as a form of communication; Rei wondered if he was mute. It was his tale that he told. He let them know why he ate the bark. And it broke her heart.

Rei's eyes searched to make contact with his before slowly reaching out with the intention of brushing my muzzle against his flank. She yearned for the the smile I she had glimpsed only moments before.

Once again she let a feather brush against his ink. She looked to her earlier drawing and pawed out the image of herself. With concentration she drew a pegasus taking flight and then a bit to the side she drew it returning to a spot where two others stood. Silently she prayed to the gods that he would understand what she had tried to say.

Earlier during her flight to the Threshold she had spotted a red color that had been positively vibrant against the canvas of the snow. They were berries that had somehow survived the clutches of winter. A bit sour, but a treat nonetheless. Rei made her way back to the spot in which she had seen them and after tearing the biggest cluster of them that she could find the pegasus made a dash back to her new friend.

It was hard to smile and keep a grip on the berries but Rei managed to slip one by as her hooves hit the ground a small distance from Ghost and the stallion. In front of each of her friends she dropped a few berries while also holding onto a couple for herself. How she hoped the stallion didn't take her bringing the food to him as an insult. She admired how he had seemed to send a message to Ghost about his bark eating and hoped that she didn't find herself at the end of a similar display.

"We meet again!" Brightly the spotted pegasus smiled as she greeted the mare she had bumped into so often while in the Threshold.

"I saw these earlier today. I just remembered them and thought that they might be nice to share together." Her eyes and lips scrunched up at the first berry she ate. It had been quite a sour one and she hated to imagine the expression that had overtaken her face at its taste. Just the thought alone made her laugh. Hopefully all of them would not sport the same flavor.

Picking up her remaining berries she made her way to stand closer to the stallion. Already Rei found herself thinking of him as a dear friend.

"What is your name? It feels wrong to not know the name of a friend." Rei flashed the stallion her brightest smile.

@[Ink] No sweat! The post was worth the wait. Ink is going to be such an interesting character to read on here. He has already made it to my favorites list for sure.
