Syrena’s complete joy at the sound of Hidden Falls was pure, wondrously pure. Oh how marvellous! Even just the name of this home seemed perfect – a land within a land, a sanctuary within this alien place. Essetia, proving to be a valuable host and tour-guide already, went on to explain that there were four herd lands within Helovia. It seemed that this water-mare would have to pay more attention to the politics of Helovia than she had ever thought in any of her previous homes.

How tedious.

Essetia was lovely, of course, but she was still… not perfect. She wasn’t a siren, she was something else. Did they have names for the other species? She had to be something after all. She was after all standing in front of her. It was incredibly hard for Syrena to just not poke around at Essetia, see what an ordinary horse felt lie.

Of course, that was simply not allowed – she prided herself in getting through life so far without having been touched and she wasn’t about to sacrifice her purity for the sake of curiosity.

None of the other herds sounded remotely interesting – the mention of the sea, of course, caused a little spark of excitement but she couldn’t perform properly in the sea. That was where they were born, where they gathered. It was a sacred place and certainly one that she would want to see. But waterfalls and ponds and rivers were what stirred her heart. There she would find the materials she needed, there she would find the plants that nourished her body.

Essetia’s assurance that Syrena ‘belongs’ in the Falls is privately humorous, she did not belong anywhere but it certainly seemed like a good place to start. And this pretty brown mare seemed eager to share her home. There was a strange feeling tickling the back of the siren’s mind, alerting her that this land was unlike any of the others . It would be sensible of her to have a guide as she got acquainted with the new surroundings.

She has been thinking over these options but it only took a minute to confirm that her thoughts had lain in the same direction as her new acquaintance. Her smile stayed sweet as she responded with what was hopefully the response Essetia was looking for. “The Falls sounds just perfect. Can we go there now?”
