This wasn’t easy. With a long sigh the gold noses the small brown body awake. The small fawn was a new additional to his daily annoyances. But it- Haldir was more trouble that he was worth at the moment. In the darkness of night the fawn blended in near perfectly. His black spotted coat would one day grow out into something more fitting of his race, but for now it did it’s job and hid him perfectly in the dark. For several days now the golden son had taken more effort into the relationship. If the fawn was to be attached to him, better make sure he wasn’t an idiot. So the much to the fawn’s joy, he was not always stashed away places. The little one had not enjoyed those, after hours he always began to worry and grow hungry. A strange irritation would build in him right at the end, but that golden creature would always return. He would try not to get too excited, but he couldn’t help it. The golden didn’t seem to like it when he did that. Perhaps, the fawn thought, if he could please this gold creature more, he wouldn’t be left alone so long. With effort the little deer tried, and much to his happiness the gold seemed to tolerate him more. It was clear to the small fawn the gold was not his papa, but also, the little one had decided, clear that they were together somehow.

There was always a tension though. Not to mention the persistence of that golden. The small fawn was struggling to keep up. Though the gold was taking more time, he had little patience, and there apparently was a lot to learn. Today, or still rather, tonight, the gold had pulled the fawn from his bush nest (for though the gold guarded him he did not sleep with him), and nosed the little one out here to the edge of the land. To the golden this wasn’t exactly a thrill either. He should be haunting around for information, especially with his new ranked magic, but instead he was dragging thi-Haldir out of bed to try once more to teach the creature something. Standing now in the dark the gold nosed the little creature awake once more. Its small earth eyes looked up to him with weariness, but the gold only motioned his horned head towards the eastern horizon. There, the sky was growing lighter, and lighter by the minute. Night was washing away in its wake and the world began to grow in color again.

At last the sun broke through the dunes sending a beam of pure gold out into the world, and slowing grew in size and warmth. The small little fawn watched with weary eyes, his head growing heavy, but as the light at last touched his small chilly frame he felt a warmth wash over him, and empower him. He looked up at the gold with a relaxed, but awake face. The twin horned spoke, his tongue rough from disuse. “Anaróre [sunrise]” The small fawn’s head twisted to the side as yet another strange word came from the gold’s lips. He honestly couldn’t understand the purpose of this strange creature. The gold again repeated “Anaróre” and pushed the fawn’s head towards the east. The black spotted fawn had tried once or twice in these lessons before to repeat the word, which the gold seemed so set on, but it always came out as small bleat, which the gold seemed to detest. So the fawn would just look and take it in. He had learned several words by now, nor [run], dolen [hide], tolo [come], medi [eat], ithil [moon], and his favorite elenath [starry host, night sky]. The gold also seemed to have liked the last as well. When he spoke it he did so with a sweetness the young fawn had not heard before, and for once the tension which they both usually felt eased.

It of course had ended, and now they moved back to their normal states. The young fawn though could not help but like the gold, especially during their lessons. Though he was far more tired than he should be at this age, his mind worked hard. He wanted to know what the gold knew, for it seemed the gold knew about the world. Haldir wanted to know about the world too, and be just as proud as the gold seemed to be. Of course he couldn’t quiet name such feelings yet, but there certainly was a strong part of him, that wanted to grow alongside of this creature. The gold was not so certain he liked that future, but as the days were beginning to pass, he admitted, the fawn was not too bad of company. At least the little thing had stopped bleating feebly. Plus, there might have been a small part of him that enjoyed that old speech, and having another around that he did not have to constantly analyze and attack. It was however, a very, very small piece.

With the sun rising higher in the sky the gold nosed the small fawn away. It was time to find the thin-Haldir, something to eat. The gold turned back to the small oasis he had laid claim to, where some grasses were tender enough for the fawn. The black spotted child, trotted after him, his body beginning to awake, and his steps to grow higher and stretch out. He had seen the gold move like this once and it look like a flashy display. The small fawn had liked it, but had his own ideas of how it should look. With the happiness of the end of an awkward lesson, and the energy of the sun spilling into him, the fawn decided to show off to the gold his own steps. With a regal air inscribed in his instincts from his ancestors the young fawn held his head high instead of curled, and did not rush through the steps, but let it carry him gently. The gold heard a change in pace in the fawn and looked back, only to see him coming towards him in such a step. As much of annoyance as the fawn was at taking a longer time to come along, the gold still could not help but be affected by a small rise in chest of pride. It pulled an end of his lips up in a smile. In a twisted sort of a way, it was a cute family portrait.
