The proximity was a painfully bittersweet moment. Being able to be so close was breathtaking, yet with one simple mistake everything could shatter again. Such a good soul would no doubt disapprove of his "witchery" as it was so often referred to. So all he did was follow her movements, watching as she placed her little head atop her hooves. It was such an innocent gesture, and he to lowered his muzzle to the ground. She, at this point, had to know he was a mute, so all he could do was sit and listen. If she had revelations about her life, or magical stories to tell, he would be her secret keeper. So there he stood, watching her hazel eyes like a moth to a flame.

The one thing he didn't expect, were her next words.

His ears flickered forward as he violently raised his head, gazing at her like a dumbfounded foal. Not once had anyone asked him how he felt, instead he was bombarded by the endless assumptions of those who had no idea what was occurring. He blinked a few times, still not sure how to approach this question. On one hand, it was as horrible as most thought. He was thrust into a world where everyone relied on communication as much as they relied on oxygen. Without it, he just kept fading and fading until he finally would finally just disappear. Then, there was a bright side. He was never asked to make decisions he didn't want to make, so instead of blaming himself he could lend the mental distress on those who required him to do so. It was a cowardly escape, but a valid one nonetheless.

Realizing he had not moved a muscle in quite a while he finally just... shrugged. There was really no way to say yes or no, because he could communicate if forced too. Though, the next words began to force his mind into another tumultuous cycle. Her own mother had been both mute and deaf? How did he have the right to sit here and feel even once ounce of pity for himself? He blinked back another veil of shock that covered him like a blanket, glancing over to her quietly only to find tears. His own eyes glassed over, wanting to take away her pain. He had lost a mother, and with the looks of it, she may have also.

He let her work out her own emotions, because she needed too. He had done that numerous nights when he had first left home. He would find himself heaving, unable to move under the weight of sorrow and exhaustion. The feeling never really goes away, horses just learn to deal with it. There wasn't another option unless you wanted death. Eventually, she began to laugh it off, but Cerin was not fooled. She was in pain, so his face remained stoic until she spoke again.

Then, it was rather obvious.

Tears fell from her eyes like little waterfalls and all he could do was lie there and do absolutely nothing. Never had he felt more useless in his life. What could he possibly do to help her? It wasn't fair to keep her here in a place where she was in constant agony and sorrow. She coughed again, as if trying to speak until finally strangled, anguished words came forth. He just nodded in agreement. No use lying to her, although she truly did have the worse end of the stick here.

Contemplating, he could not let her stay here. Clearing his throat, he leaned his muzzle forward, stopping just short of her shoulder to look at her. If she did not mind his touch, he could take this all away. Even if just for a moment she could live in a world of sunshine and happiness. Sometimes, living in a dream was the only hope you had to hand onto. Cerin knew that better than anyone.
