PIRATE

Their feelings were much more the same than she could realize. With having by good luck come about this enterprise before it even really got off the ground he was protecting himself. The thought he might one day be served justice with cold chains had, at some points, crossed his mind. They were not strong emotions, just little pricky feelings of uneasy. But now he was truly flying high. He would save guard his own soul by selling other. Sounds like a typical justice system. Only true to the naïve, and the haven of the true criminals. What prophetic phrase. His ego was shooting higher than a balloon.

So good thing it was about to fall flat again. The mare seems to move into a serious business. It being the hiding of her true excitement he could not tell. Mostly because he too, was too excited to notice. His nerves jittered under that dark skin, and hooves lifted one by one, ready. Dark harks leaned forward, and that lovely feminine face grows lines of concentration. Sped and height to get lift. Wait what was lift? Was it-oh wait she’s talking. Standstill, well duh. Feel the winds?! I mean a breeze was nice but feel the temperature-shit she’s still going. Tuck legs? But what was he supposed to reach with-crap she’s leaving. Ah fuck let’s hope just watching will help.

Alright, she was running, and running. Well the golden had done that. The wings pumped, lifting her slightly. Yep he’d certainly felt that. Wait shouldn’t she go? The ground ended? Holy crap she expected him to jump off the cliff? Gut twisted up and not before had he such shaky legs. Up she goes though soaring out and then making a rather fancy back left. Well fancy to him. Nerves now though were quite high shot. He was never nervous. Not like this. And that made him nervous. Haldir, feeling the pulls of his bonded look up to see the mare flying, and with a lazy eye of sleep look expectantly to the gold, or rather the dark and red mare.

The blue bird had done it. She had done it. So that golden was going to be damned if he was to be proved yellow (which is different than gold, he reminds you) by her. Wings slowly stretch out and those red eyes sharpen, narrowing. Breath gives one last huge exhale and he’s off. The lean mare races, her head a little low, but speed full force. Oh! Wings! Shit. Red wings begin to pump, first slow, then faster, and faster. Oh but it might have started too late! Body began to brace as he came storming to the ledge. Like a steam train to the broken bridge. Do they honestly look death in the face every take off!? The lean body begins to lift with the last few steps, but the stride is falling, and forward momentum being lost. He waits till too late before those hips bunch and jump. His forward moment near shot and wings off beat.

It was an utter disaster. Again. The dark mare jumps off wrong and does soar out, but then it jerks back to the ledge. Hooves scrambling, and wings flapping about like a mad bird. The creature scrambles back onto the bank. Seeming to almost cling to the earth. It would be pointless to tell you what he was feeling. You know it. But if anything the golden was a proud man, and this time it was about to be for good. He yells from where he was, the feminine voice carrying over the edge of the monster inside. “DON’T SAY ANYTHING.” The technique might have developed in his head with her help, but this time it boiled down to nerves, and he wasn’t about to have her give him any pep talk or pity.

Standing up the mare shakes herself off. Anger was just the push that golden inside needed. He charges that dark mare’s form from where he stood, and as he neared the back of the clearing spins tight. Yes anger was all he needed to get those teeth to grit, and eyes to narrow, and keep that heart pounding out strong and firm. Wings stretch out and begin to pump, body begins to lift earlier, and this time he does not slow or shorten his stride. The face of that mare is one ready to jump to her doom. The next to last the stride halfs, and front legs leap up. Wings are on beat, up, ready to pound down. Like jumping the tallest thing he has ever strived for that golden strains every one of that mare’s muscles. It worked.

Wings pound up and down, working vigorously (more than they needed to), and legs, with the leap tuck up. The dark mare gained altitude and even a little speed. It was a few strides before the golden even comprehended what he was doing. It almost screwed him over. The mare’s face looks down and he body jerks up, throwing it all off balance for a moment. Then wings found their stride again. Though the ground still called to the golden and he wanted desperately to touch its hard surface, he couldn’t deny it, this was amazing. Head looks up and really around for the first time to see the tops of trees, and lakes. He began to feel the tickle of each feather on the wind, feel it running through. Each stride he flew, a smile grew more and more on his face. It was amazing. He was doing it. He was flying. Well sort of, a little problem began to arise….how did you steer this thing?!
