The white and blue marked bugicorn doesn't greet me except for a strange growly-sigh that I think is for me. I gather from this response that perhaps she doesn't enjoy my arrival. The stripey one (haven't we met, now that I think about it?) is much kinder, and blesses me in return to my blessing for her sneeze. I quirk an ear - why is she blessing me, I didn't sneeze! She compliments my intelligence, calling me clever. I glance at Haruki and think to myself, 'Well, I AM clever!' But then the air starts to feel strange, and hairs along my back begin to stand on end. The blue and white shouts at us to move and I back away, my small wings helping to move me out of the way. Haruki jumps beneath me, hiding behind my legs. Cracks of electricity, of lightning leave the mare and strike against the ice. She must be trying to break it! The striped mare covers her eyes with her little wings, and I mimick her, using my pink and black toned feathers to shield my face as well. Small bits of ice fall from the sky, split from the glacier that is under attack. Most of them fall short of me - I've moved far enough away. But some dance upon the top of my head, bouncing off harmlessly. Finally the crackling stops, and I peak out from beneath my wings to see what is happening now. The glacier remains solid and resistant to the violent magic. She seems frustrated, and resorts to physical violence, pummeling the wall with her hooves. I tuck my wings away, not worrying so much about debris anymore. More and more she carves away, slowly but surely. And I move a little closer, trying to see what it is she's after. Is that a clink I hear? "What is it? Did you get it?" Curiosity pulls me forward, though Haruki nips at my heels with concern that perhaps I'm getting a little too close to ouchy things.
