That's usually how it goes. Boy, didn't she know it. But didn't those words ring as dreadful in his ears, as they did hers? Hadn't Kahlua said the same thing only moments after she was born? Well that's just how its always been done. So? SO?! She wanted to scream at the irrationality of it. It was a fallacy! Just because you've always done something a certain way doesn't mean it's the right way. Further! If that was your only justification for doing it, didn't that alone set of alarm bells? If all you had was ritual, and not reason? How could so many live their lives based on the decisions of those who died hundreds of years ago?

As Mesec asked whether she thought his name was silly, her lips opened to reply before promptly closing. The amusement in his voice seemed to suggest that ... he hadn't asked the question in earnest. Was it.. a joke? Sarcasm? The girl didn't have a good grasp on either of those concepts. If it wasn't meant to be answered (rhetorical, her mind supplied), what was the point of asking? What was the point in saying the words? But then Mesec was continuing, asking if she minded nicknames and once again reaffirmed that it was just something you do when meeting someone.

Her heart fluttered slightly in her chest. Please don't be an idiot. She hoped to herself silently as her golden gaze wavered. She was starting to think Mesec was okay; it would be a shame to learn that he was as dull as the rest of them, especially after spending so much time with him. Then again, anything over 10 minutes in the presence of another felt like a long time to the earthen child.

"Why would I mind? It's just some sounds you put together to refer to me. It doesn't mean anything. It doesn't mean me-" Her blood-marked shoulders shrugged slightly. "It's just sounds."

Internally her mind began to fidget uncomfortably. The awkwardness of his question had really drawn out just how out of place she was feeling. She didn't belong here - didn't belong in a conversation with a member of her family. She was the misfit, the outcast. This ... whatever it was, meeting suddenly felt taxing, draining...like the veil she had carefully crafted was wavering, and she wouldn't be able to hold it for much longer. Mesec would see the darkness, would see her faults and would turn against her. Just as many had turned against his mother. They were the same brand of monster, she decided. Perhaps she and Mesec had been born to the wrong parents.

"I have to go." She said suddenly, trying to make up an excuse on the fly so that Mesec wouldn't think her sudden departure was his fault. She flashed a force smile, "You can call me whatever you want when I see you next." She offered, as her body began to suddenly shrink and contort. All colour faded away - save for her eyes - as her body morphed into something much, much smaller. Her death-mask remained, but was suddenly on the face of a raven. On blackened wings the earthen child took to the skies, cawing a final goodbye as she fled.

Figured this was a good place to end? <3333333
