Jahzara

The golden vixen stared out over the cliff's edge with glazed over eyes, looking at the ocean without truly seeing the waves or hearing the rush of water. Jahzara was lost in the depths of her mind, her mentality morphed by the latest of events that had triggered her least favorite hallucination to pull her into the darkness. How long had it been since she had been trapped in this mental state? Too long, far too long. The last time Charles had fully trapped her in this state had been before her arrival to Helovia, and this was not a welcome feeling that had returned. Sure, she was moving, breathing, eating when her body demanded such, but she was merely an empty shell walking around. Her body was automated, going through the motions of life without emotions, without communication. For those that greeted her, what was once a bubbly and vivacious mare with a filly-like temperament was now a dull, unresponsive expression.

This was the way that her brain attempted to protect her from further trauma, though she never seemed to figure out a way to escape this mental prison on her own. All she could do was wait for the phase to pass. In the depths of her mind, everything was dark and quiet, as though nothing from the outside world could be processed. Jahzara wouldn't even know how long she had been in the dark, would not be aware to any harm that may have come to her physical being, completely missing any attempts at conversation. This loneliness terrified her on the inside, where her only company was the wispy, smokey draft hallucination named Charles. Charles blocked out even Lily, drowning out everything until he deemed it safe to unveil Jahzara to the world once more.

'Why did you do this Charles? I didn't want to come here!' Her thoughts screamed and pleaded with the figment of her imagination, demanding set her free to no avail. His raspy voice would barely whisper the answer to her questions, merely giving simple responses such as 'not safe', 'invasion', 'changes'. Jahzara was aware that an invasion had been happening for the Falls, but did not partake in the battles and stayed behind to watch over the Edge. However, Charles apparently disapproved of her responsibility engulfed her in his shadows. This alone terrified the girl, not knowing if the members of her herd, her family, were safe. Not knowing what was happening to her home, unsure if she would come out to a land of destruction and missing friends.

The presumed dangers had passed, and now there were many changes in the works for the World's Edge that would involve decisions needing to be made. Knowing this, Charles slowly began to drop his shadow, setting the mare free from her own mind. Ever so slowly, she began to realize where she was standing, the sounds were becoming clearer, the salty smell of the sea mixed with the musk of the forest returning to her senses, her vision focusing at last. For a moment, the golden mare just stood there, her eyes scanning the horizon before her. There was no other time in her life where she had been more terrified to turn around, to see the potential damage that had wrecked havoc on the world behind her. Horrible thoughts ran through her mind as she worked the courage to look over her shoulder to see that her home was still standing the way it always had been. With a sigh of relief, all of her muscles relaxed, she hadn't even known that she had been so tense.
