Htar
i am hiding from some beast, but the beast was always here

Tiva seemed to take the arrival of the stallion in stride, scolding the larger horse like he was her own colt. She even dismissed his own words, like they meant very little to her. It was clear to him that Tiva had faced little hardship in her short life. He felt momentarily torn between curing her of the notion that life was kind to its subjects and allowing her to continue on as the sweet, fearless filly that she was.
Looking into her kind silver eyes, the choice was simple. He only hoped that her eventual teacher was not unnecessarily cruel.
The other stallion, in Htar's distraction, had begun to rant and ramble in response to his and Tiva's words. He seemed quite distressed at Htar's statement in particular. Curiously, he seemed to want to group himself with the rabbits and mouse he'd brought. Htar cast a skeptical eye over the horse. He didn't seem sickly or small, in fact he was of a similar size to Htar himself. Could it be that the stallion simply did not like to fight?
Htar had never met a stallion that didn't like to fight. They fought over everything. Mares, grazing rights, any words that could be construed as a slight against their honor. Htar didn't enjoy fighting, that was true, but he had learned out of sheer self preservation.
Something in his chest eased. There would be no locking horns today.
He listened to the rest of the horse's speech, and realized that the horse was trying to tell him that they were all weak in the face of nature, of the gods. The cave protected all that needed shelter, and it did not discriminate. He had to agree. The storm had even driven him to find cover. He was not above nature's wrath.
The stallion introduced himself as Tilney, and even offered an apology to Htar. It sounded sincere, though there was a hint of exasperation in his tone.
"Things were… different where I came from." He said, in way of explanation. "I suppose we should wait this out together."
He gave a tentative smile to the other two horses.
