i am the vanguard of your destruction
It was time.
Well, to be fair, it was past time, but it seemed to be one of those things—he didn't see Torleik for a while (patrols, having a life, recruiting—you name it), or he just plain didn't feel like it, or he contemplated throwing himself off the cliff and leaving the Black King to deal with it, or he was busy chasing Nyx on a dark night, or.. pretty much anything.
So, calling the herd together hadn't gotten done, and he was still in the dark about who they even lived with.. what that remained of the previous inhabitants—things he had to tear down for his own peace of mind, signs of Mirage to smash, and, and—
It was a restless fire burning in his chest, flickering and eating away... Licking along the edges of his conscious mind—I have a heart—and slowly reshaping whatever glacier that lay thick and dormant in his soul.
But now, it was finally time, and it was time for all of the Edge to know their new regency—the Black King and the White Queen.
Because by the stars he was tired of being a "King". Being a Queen was so. Much. Better.
"World's Edge!" he cried into the snowflakes and the trees, the chilling fog creeping between bare trunks and crawling over the unbroken expanse of snow as the sun came up above the horizon—rays of light striking the topmost layer of crystals and setting the whole world a-glitter,
and he's reminded of the love he holds for this season. "Gather, for our first Thing!"
And his light, clear voice rang through their home, pulling at bones, whispering in souls, and even if they could not hear him they would know in their hearts that they had been called—and he stood there, illuminated by the pale rising sun, and waited.
