This situation was just....not computing with Hawke. At all. At the cactus's words he frowned, confused before he blinked, feeling something sticky on his feet. Startled he looked down juat as the owl screeched and took flight to get aid, knowing what ensnared the doomed foals. Aelin's scream of terror cut Hawke like a thousand knives. Her pleas for him to help tore him apart, and a furious squeal tore from the boy as he thrashed, fighting to get free and help Aelin, but every jerky movement drew him deeper into the earth. A veil of pulsing read covered his vision, driven wild by Aelin's sobs. Heat boiled in his chest, and with a roar he felt it explode, the magic of bonerot and decay lashing out around them, sparing none with bones. Not even Aelin. Strength fled the boy, and he collapsed onto the sand, feeling it suck at his jaw. His sides heaved, panting as he fought back to his feet, but couldnt get up. The sand had reached his belly by now, and he pulled his head free, turning his neck as far as it could go to press his muzzle against Aelin's shoulder.
