It was a strange thing for Ktulu and she found herself fascinated that she loved the little colt that she and Lakota had been gifted with the same ferocity that she'd loved Hototo and Ranjiri. After Hototo's death she'd been terrified that she would be unable to love the child that Lakota had wanted so desperately, but she found herself constantly watching him even when he was curled up on the ground beside her fast asleep. Each rise and fall of his tiny chest helped to mend her fractured heart and, though she knew she would never be the same, he was healing her. As much as she wanted to spend the entire night standing there watching him while he and Lakota slept she had other duties to attend to that often drew her away from the small family that she had built. As she stepped away from them Eytan moved to follow behind her only to stop when his bonded glanced at him and shook her head. "Stay and watch them." She instructed as she headed toward the border to start her nightly patrol.

It was several hours later when the sun was beginning to rise that she was alerted that her son had awoken and was sneaking away from a snoozing Lakota and Aodaun. "I'm coming, but follow him." The dark mare said through the mental connection with her companion. "Stay hidden unless you think he'll get himself in trouble. Keep me updated on where you are." As she made her way back to where Lakota had been left sleeping she would get glimpses of the places that Eytan was following Murtagh through. A mixture of emotions made Ktulu frown as she moved quietly past her mate and her companion. She was glad that her son showed a sense of adventure, wary of what she perceived to be a desire for independence that came too soon, and worried that he would think himself strong enough to go off on his own because what if he got hurt? She'd never be able to forgive herself if she allowed Murtagh to be injured or ... or killed.

Ktulu snorted and began to move faster as Eytan flashed her a glimpse of the frozen waterfall. It may have been the dead of winter and the water frozen, but she never trusted ice. One wrong step could result in an injured leg or cracked ice that would give way and send you plunging into the frigid water just below. Her hooves pounded against the ground and snow seemed to explode behind her and she arrived just in time to see her son touch the ice with his hoof then recoil. She skidded to a stop, sending a wave of snow forward and away from her.

"Murtagh!" She barked out her child's name and as she stood there Eytan finally revealed himself. "What are you doing? Get away from there."
