Elsa,
Feel lucky for what you have, when you have it. Happily ever after doesn’t mean happy forever.

The light was filtering through the winter clouds; the perpetual cover seemed to blanket all of Helovia. There was the occasional thinning, but other than that it was dreary. By mid-afternoon on this unsurprisingly dark morning, Elsa was growing tired of lingering in the Edge. Sure, she had friends there, but it was a skin-deep relationship. None of them knew of her sadness, and it was on days like this that the weather seemed to magnify its affects.

So she flew away from her problems, just like she had everything else. In the sky, she could soar above it all. She could rise as high as she could, and escape the dense darkness that lurked under the cloud line. There she was free, and nearly no one could find her. A safe haven, that would forever remain untouched. Whirling in a circle, she flipped to her back, and glided. Seeing the world upside down makes it seem so much more harmless. The trees look like they were hanging above you, and it looked as if you could watch the entire earth without you seeing them. For a couple of hours this charade continued. She would fly, flip, and fly again. A horse-pancake if you will. But like a pancake, she could only fly so far before she hit the ground.

In a not-so-graceful dive, Elsa hit the sand like an awkward foal. Her feet tripped up, causing her to look as if she had the worst back twitch ever. Finally though, her feet found solid purchase and she slid easily to a stop in the sand. Her eyes widened, and she flickered her ears around quickly, listening for anyone in the shadows. If even a single soul saw that, she would have to take them out. Metaphorically of course, it wasn’t exactly moral to go wiping horses off the face of the planet. With a shake, she rid herself of the sand that made its way up her body, and tucked her wings gently against her side. They ached greatly, the joint preventing her from taking flight again. It seemed that the beach would become her home for now. At least here it was a bit brighter. With a few steps she hoisted herself off the sand, and onto the soft grasses, content to listen to the ocean.
