Those who stand for nothing fall for anything.
Unfortunately, for the petite mare, they made the long trek to Edge during the warmer part of the day. It was Birdsong, so the days weren’t nearly as hot as they would get in Tallsun (or so the elephant assumed, for he had not yet spent a Tallsun in Helovia). Though, to the stud, the slight sweat on his flanks and patchy perspiration on his neck was a relief after the long Frostfall and delayed warmth Birdsong.

Though he was careful to swing his massive strides slowly- for he often had the habit of marching quickly toward home. He had already lost one mare on the way from the Threshold, he wasn’t about to repeat that mistake.

A slight, inward grimace overtook him as he thought of accidentally leaving Whisper to birth alone. Thank the gods Brisa had been there.

He swept his trifling chagrin aside, turning his head towards the mare of caramel highlights. In the sun, they seemed so glow, playing with the eyes, catching the gaze, drawing one in. So the elephant found his own, blue gaze caught as they broached the shattered remains of the glass wall. And, due to his distracted eyes, he found one of his large hooves tripping over a particularly jagged piece of broken glass.

“Ooff-” his surprised grunt was cut short as his abdomen and haunches tensed to stop himself from tumbling into the deadly glass. Luckily, the piece he had tripped on fragmented beneath the hooves of the herd’s Glazier. Unluckily, his recovery from his bungled steps was clunky and landed him among many smaller, harder to navigate pieces.

He looked back to Sol with an embarrassed, lopsided grin. “Watch your step through the glass,” he stated unnecessarily, humor in his rumbling voice. “I’ll be just-” he started to pick his way through the glass, “just a few-” he picked very carefully with his large hooves, “steps behind- ah- you-…” a few strands of his tail snagged the razor edges. His resigned sigh turned into an amused snort and he glanced once up at Sol before returning his eyes to the glass mess he was in. “Welcome to the Edge,” the ironic drama in his murmured words was laced with humor at himself.
