I want to swim away but don't know how

Whisper was angry. Not with anyone other than herself. Her careless actions and anxiety over Crow had taken a toll on her mind to the point where she could have damaged her own heir. If not for Tembovu thinking quickly and using his magic, Astra could have suffered the consequences of the glass shards -some that were large enough to impale her. Grunting, Whisper stood there, tears of embarrassment and anger flowing over her eyes. The last few nights had all but murdered her will to continue going.  She tried to focus on what Tembovu had told her moments before she had fallen, but it was lost. Something about there not being a war but borders erected up to keep out others but she could not hang onto his words, as her fall had made them vanish from her brain.


He was at her side, quickly and within seconds he had called out for a doctor to aid her. Whisper felt so silly, so... stupid. She shook her dial and dropped her wings in defeat. She needed a healer, she needed a healer to take a look in her mind and tell her why the night terrors were eating her alive even when she was awake. She could almost smell him- like a faint waft of decay on the winds and all she wanted to do was fly far away but she couldn't. Her filly needed her and there was no wings on the sweet girl. She would never know what true freedom really was.

Astra was oblivious to it all. She had hopped up and continued to chase the butterfly without s second thought. She had tumbled to the earth so much already learning her legs, she only thought it was something that happened in life. She had nursed and was full of milk and joy. For her the earth the shiny, new and without faults. The scents were pleasing and plentiful. Sometimes she caught a wiff of mother and her friend and other times she could smell sweet nectared scents of flowers and she could swear the sun had a smell as well. Her lips parted and she shushed the butterfly, but still no words came out. She knew what her mom was telling her, they were inside her mind but there were no words coming from within her. Frustrated she snorted and watched as the butterfly flitted too far away. Saddened she frowned but as she was about to turn towards her mother to nurse, something bigger came with musical sounds and flirted with her in the air. It was a bird. A very large bird and it was the most beautiful of the flying things she had yet to see. Her little eyes grew wide with joy as she nickered and kicked up her tiny feet, chasing it around the elephant of a stallion and back around her mother.

Whisper watched the owl and Astra. Where had it.. she paused and noted the winged two toned mare come forth. She greeted Tembovu  and turned her beautiful green gaze to Whisper, who let her own eyes fall to the ground. She was broken and there was no fixing her. The lyrics from the mare were caring and tentative and whisper simply nodded a yes as she stood still watching the feet of both in front of her. The scrapes and cuts burned and ached but it wasn't the pain that was making her tears spill over her eyes - it was the blooming realization that she couldn't keep her daughter safe from herself and what if crow was to come here? If crow seen her he would know who Astra belonged to. He would take her and Whisper both. She shivered as her eyes grew darker and colder. How could she save the filly from the darkness? A thought passed across her mind that shattered her heart - leave Astra with Tembovu or someone else and lead Crow away. He would follow the scent of Whisper and never know about Astra... but she couldn't stand that thought of abandoning her own daughter.

but what other choice did she have? She looked at Tembovu, her eyes pleading in quiet as the moon healer came closer to look at her legs.
