So there would be no battle… She had been foolish to think her beloved God of the Sun would be as careless as his brother and sister. Megaera had had no close dealings with the Spark, but the Moon she regarded with distrust and bitterness. Earth was the only other god she felt any love for, because by his grace she had been given Mordecai to tend and care for, but it was the Sun who her worship focus toward. He was the greatest or them, the best of the four, and this new land was a testament to his glory. Megaera marveled at the breathtaking landscape, so airy and wide. The beauty of the open sky stretched to the horizon before her and was mirrored in the glassy waters and all of it shines in the light of the blessed Sun. Even the sands of her beloved Throat could not match this sight for sheer wonder it inspired.

She had moved away from the gathering without a word, coasting over the shallow waters until the figures were nothing more than dark shimmers on the horizon. Once again, Megaera was shying away from strange sensations she didn’t fully understand, though she would never admit to that. She had seen six years on this earth, was entering the prime of her life, and still she was ignorant and inexperienced when it came to the biological pulls that the rich spring season was putting her through. She’d never had a reason to think on them before now; there had always been a reason, some other imperative that had tugged her attention away like solitude or anger or duty. In the recent weeks she’d felt the season’s stirrings grown and had nothing strong enough to distract her from them, without fail she would feel them spike whenever the Warden was around.

It flustered the mare to remember how jealousy had reared its ugly head at the meeting. And all because Laedere had touched him? Because he had whispered to her, comforted her? If Meg could have kicked her own ass she would have. Einarr was an attractive stallion, that could be admitted without shame; dark and tall and strong, any could say he was a fine specimen. But there was something in him that pulled at something deeper within Meg and that is what set her on edge. Again she told herself it was ridiculous and childish and petty because whatever he was, he certainly wasn’t hers.
