Areli the flower that smells the sweetest is shy and lowly Around the river and through the woods, to the Dragon’s Throat she went. It had been weeks since she had last seen her brother, and Areli had decided to pay him a visit. How happy he would be to see her! She knew that she was the center of Ilios’ world, and she smiled to herself in gleeful anticipation of the attention he was sure to pay her. She knew that her family loved her, but things at home hadn’t been the same since he’d left. Mama had grown more distant, and Papa seemed to be always patrolling the borders. That left her with Bee. The wolf pup was great and all, but she liked games that Areli couldn’t understand. Where was the fun in stalking mice, for example? Or chasing one’s tail? She just didn’t see the appeal. And so the girl trotted through the trees, making for the south and seeking more appropriate company. Bee loped along at her side, happy at the prospect of an adventure, and in this way the pair was journeying when they came upon the topsy-turvy world of the Flats. At first glance, the sight was rather disorienting. Areli couldn’t tell which way was up and which was down; it was almost like she had fallen into the sky, but her hooves were still planted firmly on the ground. She took one tentative step, and then another, and before she knew it, she was running and shrieking across the flats, kicking up a salty spray behind her. Was this what it was like to fly?
