No words escaped her lips, for the mare said nothing, replying only with a brisk nod of her dainty head. The steady rise and fall of her breath created a sort of rhythm with which the clopping of her hooves followed. Although he was larger than her, keeping up with Mauja seemed to be no problem with Calista's slender thoroughbred legs. Not even her aching body could deter her from trotting along alongside the unicorn with the animation she'd acquired from their encounter. It was the adrenaline rising within her bones, possibly caused by the idea of knowing she might meet new friends and become a part of something larger than herself. Maybe she would feel like she had a family again since the separation from her loved ones by the unfortunate trials of life.

As they traveled west, the tobiano mare kept a short distance behind her leader, scanning the surrounding area as it changed from open meadow to thick groves of trees, whose arm-like branches reached to the sky. The pair of them established an easy pace as they crossed through the remainder of the Treshold on their way to the Edge, the yellow sun high in the sky as they were reaching the forest. Her outlandish blue eyes studied the man as he went. He did not speak to her, instead, lost in thought. His mind was busy, she observed. She wondered what it was that he seemed to be so focused upon, but knew better than to ask. She breathed softly beside him, nostrils slightly flared. Fortunately her Arabian blood allowed her immense stamina. The woman allowed silence to surround them as they trotted along, recollecting her thoughts. Though the time was only a year past, it seemed her solitude had lasted a lifetime, during which nearly everything had changed as she was left to her lonesome, or rather, she chose it. However, her current place was not one she could have ever imagined. When her world turned to ash and dust, Calista could not have fathomed what the future would hold.

They were leaving behind the soft daylight now, whose threads of sun shone down on the horizon, warming the soil. The majority of the fiery glare was quickly dotted out by a massive wall of trees that appeared to cradle the kingdom on either side. Thick clouds swirled around her body, as the sun's rays began to disappear from view, except for a tiny brand of overhead light that traced the through the clouds. The unicorn mare held her head high, her long locks streaming behind her; any onlooker would see that she was a creature with a purpose.

She followed Mauja to the border, halting beside him. Her head swiveled to study the misty acreage that enveloped her being. All was quiet; peaceful, even. The foliage was lush, so plentiful that bare earth was scarcely in sight. Though they had not yet reached the ocean, the smell of salt lingered in the air. Calista found herself gaping at the surreality of it all. "Wow." She breathed, "It is quite beautiful." When she had caught her breath, she picked up speed again, heading further into the lands of the Edge. Mauja led her through the fog. In some places it was so thick that she could not see where to place her feet. After a few more minutes, they came to a clearing. In it stood two unicorns. They were both intriguing animals; the snow-colored mare with red-dipped hair, like the color of blood. And, well, it was quite difficult to sum up the other. He was young looking, and slightly taller than herself, with a unique striped coat. Two large tusks, which were dipped in cyan, protruded from his skull. There was a little vermilion dragon playing with a gem, which she found to be quite curious. Calista was keen to meet them.

The mare called Ophelia looked up as Mauja addressed her. Calista's features beamed as she approached. Despite the overwhelming sensation of it all, animation buzzed within the damsel's chest. To ease her childlike fervor, she took in the tranquility that the surrounding gray gloom brought. The remarkableness of everything around her placed a hurry within her step, eyes wide with wonder, ears perked forward and listening into the unknown just beyond. Quickly she found herself positioned before these two strangers. She followed Mauja's introduction with a polite tip of her horn and a smile. "Hello. It's a delight to make your acquaintance. How do you fare on such a fine day?"
