The North held a wicked chill in the air even in the presence of the warm sunlit skies of Tallsun, the mare exhaled a long breath and inhaled deeply, she had chosen to navigate to the falls via the coastline once she had crossed the thistle sea, choosing to beat the suns rays via the salt air and northern winds. Not that the warmth was unpleasant, it was to be made the most of in the closing days of the season, soon the cool temperatures would settle in for the upcoming seasons.

Neph knew the aerial pathways well in her long years of roaming the lands of Helovia, navigating was not an issue but new places required direction, and so she committed the location to memory once she had been told where exactly it was located. As she had neared, she realized she had spied the same unusual cluster of red trees as she had made her way to the threshold. They stuck out out of the wash of earthly tones of mountain and grass, the deep groves and sprawling tress with their blood red gleam and even redder waters.

The Warrior couldn't help but feel a small sense of unease as vast wings glided her into an open clearing, down beneath the canopy, into an artifical darkness. A birds eye view was not on the agenda today, something which rubbed against her slightly, she was someone who liked to scope and observe from above before she risked landing.

The air smelt rich of old iron, and the ground dotted with scuffle marks of hooves, and the unusual erratic markings she chalked down to being remnants of magic long since cast, all of which the darkened ground was trying to reclaim and dismiss from it's presence. It all added up to the statuesque mare taking on a more alert, defensive stance as she broke into a ground covering trot — wings half raised from onyx sides should she need to leave at a moments notice.

"What an odd place." She mused to herself, slowing down once again to glance at the ruby pools, the waters running a deeper red than any blood she had seen shed but it did not smell of blood itself. Snorting, she swung her defined head away from the waters, there was nothing truly remarkable to note between the glimmering waters — not allowing herself to be allured by what could possibly turn such crisp mountain waters the coloured of the richest red her odd coloured eyes had ever laid upon. Once again she picked up the pace, her movements graceful but precise, ready to turn on a moments notice should anything arise. Her eyes were as sharp as the hawks that circled over head, but one could never be too careful in a dark place like this.

Perhaps her fellow patrol members would come soon, if they were not already patrolling and scouring the falls already, but any face from her herd would be a welcoming sight.

“She was beautiful, but she was beautiful in the way a forest fire was beautiful: something to be admired from a distance, not up close.”
