He had managed to slip away from Ranjiri after the battle with the Tiger – not because he wanted to escape her, really, but because he had things he wanted to do, that he’d rather be alone for.

Namely, that was to go investigate what had become of the Edge.  He wasn’t sure why he was so drawn to the place that had become an empty spot in the middle of his chest, knowing from what he had been told that it was no longer the home he had come to love during his first years here.  All he knew was that he had to see it, and that, for some equally unknown reason, he wanted to be alone when the dilapidated glass wall came into his view.

But, as sometimes happens, fate, or perhaps mere coincidence, drew the stallion awry, his sense of direction skewed by the distance of time and the strange lands which had been drug from the Rift into Helovia.  The trail he walked took him, not to the Edge, but to a peaceful and dreamy little grove of willows that now looms ahead of him like an oblique omen.  He stops suddenly, his leather satchels slapping comically against his sides, the Tigress’ mask flopping about where it is loosely tied to the main strap of his harness with a short length of rope (crafted not long after he’d ventured away from the mayhem and aftermath of the death of a Goddess), and feels the memories of this place overwhelm him.

So he is standing there with his pale eyes wide, his dark rimmed ears lifted to listen for the sounds of his neatly closeted skeletons coming to drag him into the shadow that, for most in this Tallsun heat, must seem welcoming.

To Dragomir, standing in the hock deep meadow that has led him here, feels only the same rushing rise of guilt, even this far into the future; silently he blesses the fact that none of his friends know his dark secret but for Semira, and the thought of the dragon girl only exacerbates the negative aura which radiates from the melancholy stag.

Why had he been seeking the Edge, when this place still hurt so much?  He was a damn fool, and thinks as much of himself as he turns about to head back to the Throat, to Ranjiri, to hide in the sunlight and the sea of sand from the things best avoided.
