“Yes,” the word is mingled with laughter as the peculiar stallion manages to finish her train of thought, and the ocean mare shakes her head at herself, a bashful smile softening her lips. She would like to think that she isn’t normally so flustered, but who wouldn’t be?! He had been drowning, and then swimming, and then he was talking and waving a tail that is unlike any equine tail she’s ever seen before—she can’t really blame herself. In any case, the unusual stallion doesn’t seem offended or particularly bothered by her confusion, and that is really all that matters. Tiamat has every intention of making a friend in this individual.

She nods kindly when the shark-horse continues, brushing away her apologies, and she can’t help but laugh airily at his comment. Tiamat can imagine that he’s used to such blubbering reactions (at least in this world, though the possibility that he’s a refugee from the Rift has yet to occur to the ocean mare. Her thoughts are too occupied with her wonder at the moment). “You’re very unique,” she offers him a soft grin, her words meant to be nothing but a compliment.

Tiamat’s grin widens when the unique stallion bows his large gray head, and introduces himself as Rude. While his toothy grin and seemingly predatory ‘instincts’ would scare off others (perhaps wisely so), the blue mare sees nothing but kindness in this man. He has yet to show her otherwise, and she is not the presumptuous sort. Everyone is a friend, as far as she is concerned, unless they do some ghastly deed to sway the candidness of her heart (a feat she prays will never happen). “Well that’s good to hear, Rude. It’s a pleasure as well—I’m glad to hear you’re okay,” her blue brow furrows in an expression of genuineness.

Flicking the length of her leonine tail, she waits with baited breath for his answer to her question. It is surreal to the ocean mare to think that a creature not restricted to water, would be able to not only stay under its surface, but survive there. The possibility opens up thoughts that haven’t occurred to her before. Fleetingly, Tiamat recalls Lena’s words back in the Basin, when the brown mare had explained how the gods had given her magic…perhaps—would the gods give her the chance to be with her father that way? She purses her lips, wanting nothing but to believe in the gods’ goodness, despite the horrible violence they have brought to them.

Rude’s rumbling laughter brings her attention back to him, ears pricking forward and her excitement swelling in the breath before he speaks. “Oh—wow!” The blue mare exclaims as he twists his head, displaying the gills that line his neck. This guy is just full of surprises, isn’t he? It’s fascinating! She grins wide, hardly able to contain her excitement. “That’s amazing, have you always been able to? Were you born this way?” Tiamat questions the shark-stallion in animated wonder, her white eyes round and shining in her curiosity.

It is almost difficult to explain the emotions that ebb and flow inside of her. Above all there is her amazement and delight, but just underneath, she cannot deny the tiny bit of jealousy that is there (however selfish and misplaced it might be). Tiamat can only imagine what it would be like to be so physically connected to the water, and hopes to one day—somehow, perhaps—share Rude’s ability. “I love the ocean myself, I think it would be amazing to be able to stay under the water,” the ocean mare sighs wistfully, the corners of her mouth curling upwards as she looks out across the waters. They are endless in this magical place, mirroring the sky and stretching into eternity—beckoning.
