He roamed, he discovered, he chased, and he deceived – and he’d grown, taller, mightier, wiser, for all the time he’d spent with the Sun God’s advice coiled about his mind. ”You must let go of what you cannot have,” the great being once said, glaring and powerful, menacing and bright – and Erebos had relinquished some moments, paid heed to the comments, had spurned new chapters and missions: lost friends to the slender annals of time, snagged opportunities to harm, to heal, yielding and adhering to portions of the divine one’s wisdom. But some parts of the sagacity still bristled and burned: when Aithniel had said she didn’t need them, when Arwen’s murderer still walked and stole and was permitted to unravel lives for the sake of his own greed, when the world continued tumbling down at their feet and they were left to fend with the unknown.

Perhaps, instead of letting go, he’d simply found a way to forge what he wanted, what he craved, across a different path.

”…if you wish to do those of your past justice,” - was his goal enough? Would the greater, grander power of his fire, of his invocations, of his deadly, burning, scorching enchantments be enough to settle the art of requisition? Would it inspire further wrath? Would it simmer and unravel and devastate the figure he sought to annihilate? Would it make dreams and goals reality?

Or would it just lead to further ruin, decay, and wreckage?

He’d taken the opportunity granted to him, conspiring, plotting, and waiting for the chances, the instances to herald good deeds, and weave new threads to carry him into the future. He remembered the boy and his new item, the girl in the forest, the child buried in the ice. They aided him, they inspired him, they encased themselves within his skull, and he used their hopes, their wiles, their smiles, and their misfortunes for his self-discovery, for his benefit, for his plotting, calculating whims.

But the boy wasn’t capricious, wasn’t mercenary as he wandered into the midst of the Gods, as he bowed before the bright, luminescent lava, as he lowered his knees in front of the ashen altar, and prayed in his reverential whisper. “Brilliant Sun God, I have done as you asked.” He continued, closing his vivid eyes and conjuring the sight of those who’d assisted him in his unspoken quest, in his unholy journey. “With my fire, I discovered a colt's boots in the darkness, drew a child from an icy tomb, and befriended a girl in the woods.” Then he drew silent, hoping, beckoning, imploring for this newfound possibility to becoming stronger.

You must learn to let go of what you cannot have, if you wish to do those of your past justice. Prove to me that you can move forward. Using the magic you have now, you must demonstrate your ability in three ways: forge a new relationship from the flames you possess, aid someone in need, and discover something new. Return to me then."
