Morenth had barely taken a few tender steps towards the water when someone started speaking. For a moment it did not register that the other was speaking specifically to him. The words were so casual, so innocent compared with the obvious carnage that left this particular isle desolate. The black tar that had oozed from the tigresses skin had long ago hardened in long black veins on the ground. The air still smelled of smoke, of the burning hillside and dried patches of blood were scattered here and there. Some of the surrounding area had been damaged by the onslaught, trees had fallen, rocks thrown left, right and center and sometimes in the most unfortunate places were lifeless bodies. The struggle they endured had been engraved into the land around them. Morenth couldn't even think of doing something normal right then like looking at sea shells.
Only when the other commented on his rugged appearance did it register that they were speaking to him. Slowly he raised his head and gazed behind him at the young male who addressed him. His tired eyes held the other for a moment, not giving much thought on how he must have looked to the stallion. Dirt caked his right side where he'd laid in the ground and he dared not shake it off in fear of sending more pain through his sides. His long hair was in mattes, his long white tail stained and dragged along the ground. Cuts and bruises covered him and in places there was dried blood and specks of tar that he dreaded the thought of removing later. His heels still burned, but it was insignificant in comparison to the pain he felt every time he tried to fill his lungs. No, he had no idea how he must have looked then.
Morenth found himself shaking his head wearily, "no, I'm fine. Just tired." He gave what he thought was a convincing smile and went to take a step forward only to wince as his side burned with pain.
