Ampere & Zèklè

Ampere was quickly spinning out of control of her life. This was no doubt because one never really ever had control, and it was definitely because it was the individuals in her life that were going wayward and you certainly never controlled them, but even so, it was hectic and it was causing her to grind her teeth at night she was so stressed.

Like she'd once taught her son, you needed to take those moments to step away and enjoy the world for what it was, or what it could be. Although this wasn't exactly that, the symbolism was still there, and it was a deep breath in a recent series of huffy ones that should hopefully bring her some sense of peace and solidarity. She had meant to do it sooner, but shit had hit the fan and it had taken a long time to clean it all up, but she was here now, and she hoped that still counted for something.

She hoped it was still good enough for him - now more than ever she needed to make sure she allotted time for her little lightning. The arrival of his new sisters was an unexpected, and unexplained addition to the their family, and she hoped Zekle did not hold it against her, or them. It normally wouldn't concern her, but Zero was a fragile boy and he didn't need any more fissures.

It was easy to make it sound like Zekle needed her, but to be honest, she missed him, especially compared to the girls. They were already strongly independent, leaning on each other instead of her, and it made her feel a bit, unnecessary, like she was just a milk bag. She tried not to let such thoughts creep inside her head, she was sure most parents rejoiced at their foals not demanding them so much, and she might have if she'd had any opportunity to grow tired of them to begin with. Perhaps her boy had spoiled her. He'd been so easy, so carefree, so kind and good-hearted that it had been easy to fall in love with him. But he's getting older, she thought, the notion not an easy one for her to deal with. Soon he wouldn't need her at all, and would he be ready then, to face the world? Time to stop sharing silly stories. Time to make him unbreakable.

"Zero!" she called out, her change to his preferred nickname just one example of her letting him grow and taking him seriously. "C'mon, let's begin!" It was just becoming dawn. She'd left the girls to nap and roused to find her boy already gone. She searched in his favorite places, calling for him to begin their training. She even had a knife picked out for him, its sterling body gleaming in the increasing dawn light as it hovered on electric hands before her.
