be prepared for a whole world of hurt

Grusha liked the Throat well enough, but she wanted to see everything else that Helovia had to offer. She didn't like feeling like she was confined to one little sandy island in the middle of the ocean. Part of her suspected that her parents thought that she would stay put because she was still so young, but the girl hated to be idle. She always wanted to be moving or hunting and the bond she shared with Nashoba only strengthened that desire she had to hunt.

The first opportunity that Grusha got she took advantage of and slipped away from the watchful eyes of her parents (and anyone else that they had watching her). What did they expect of her? Did they not want her to long for adventure? Did they want her to be sheltered and protected from everything. Did they want her to grow into a yearling, still clinging to her mother's teat like her big brother? It was so not going to happen. Her parents could yell at her and scold her and try to punish her if they wanted to, but they would not be able to extinguish the desire she had to explore. They would not change who she was or mold her into what they wanted her to be.

Grusha had no particular destination in mind as she shoved her way through brush and under low-hanging tree branches. Every now and again she would feel a pull and hear a crack! as a twig broke off and stayed in the tangled, fuzzy mess that was her mane. Behind her Nashoba trotted (proudly) with a dead rabbit hanging from his jaws. Its head was smashed (thanks to Grusha) but it still made the pup happy. He and his bond mate were hunting together and he had a prize to show off.

"Come on Nathoba!" The girl called as she burst through a set of bushes, her hooves finding the back of a fat squirrel. It cracked and the squirrel squealed, but the sound was cut short by Nashoba's jaws around its tiny neck. "Good job." Grusha complimented the pup, who flopped down on the ground to begin his feast. "Don't meth the boneth up." She warned the pup with a stern look on her face. "I want them."
