the happy ending depends, of course...
At the wary look the blue roan gave both him and his childhood friend, he gently shook his head, implying there was no need for her to fret over possession of her belongings. But he needn’t have worried, for Aji was quick to assuage the mare— despite the false sigh and words that always begged if their meanings were true. But thus was the way with his friend, never would it change. (And the Elephant was glad of it.)

As he rose, his eyes found her dismay while his ears heard the stifled gasp. Though Aji is quick to assure her of the female attentions he had received due to his size, mischievous glances and shoulder bumping against his own. The King had to stop his eyes from rolling heavenward, though he cannot stop the lopsided, amused grin that glitters across his face, “My friend exaggerates, for it was truly he that garnered the attention of the soldiers.” A mischievous look of his own glinted in cobalt eyes.

Though the jokes and merriment (such a relief, in the face of such dark times for the Elephant; Aji did not know the godsend he was— that he had always been), were swept aside as the small voice his his pearly weanling replies, “I couldn’t sleep.” There was something so honest beneath the simple confession that it drew the King’s gaze, eyes truly studying her for the first time that evening. It was then that he saw the exhaustion, the ever present limp, the aged lines on such a young face. The smallest of frowns crossed his face, concern immediately weighing heavy on him at the thought of Erthe being troubled— but his inquiry after her well-being was stymied before it could be formed on his lips, as the newcomer exclaimed with exuberance.

She speaks of Aly and Iona— that they had extended an invitation to join the herd. She speaks of the Rifts, and he is spared having to confirm his grave knowledge of the place as Erthe confirms her presence in the Isles. Though, he does echo the icy youth’s sentiments, “We know of the Rift and its battles. Our herd suffered losses and injuries from their gods— Our past King lost his daughter, and Erthe’s legs have yet to heal,” his voice had grown grave, his giant horn motioning towards the hybrid’s appendages as he spoke.

But such weighty talk was broken by the inquiry put forth by Aji, making light of a serious situation. A lopsided, half-grin returned to his broad muzzle, addressing Dacianna as he indirectly answered his friend’s carefully careless question, “Loyalty is all we ask for in the Edge. Attend herd meetings, be attentive to your craft, if you have one?” There was a question, did this roan mare of the Rift have a rank in mind? “And respect those ranked higher than yourself,” he paused, studying the mare of gilded hair and golden trinkets, "I am glad you have found refuge with us, Dacianna.”

He glances again towards Erthe, concern still evident on his face.
...on when you end your story.
