tuppence

a touch of destiny

Aimlessly she wandered now, her hopes trickling out the tip of her tail as she traced slowly between the fir and pine. This was a foreign land to her; much different to the tropics where she made her home. what had made her wander so far though?
Three months it had been since Tuppence had set off to lay her sister to rest. Her name was Carlisle, and she had died many years too young. Broken bones were carried on Tuppences back for weeks over hills and forest, fields and lakes. It was tradition; Carlisles legs were buried in the red waste between her homeland and Helovia, Her skull burried in the forests to the far north, her ribs sunk in the great sea. The does precious hooves had been destined for the tallest summit in Helovia, the one that towered above the Frostbreath steppe; this was until all four were stolen. Desperately she had looked for the culprit, the theif who had taken the very last piece of the puzzle. Would Carlisle ever be at peace now if her hooves had been taken for medalions? They would never rest on the highest mountain, so how could the gods of their homeland allow her to rest. The circle was broken, the ritual a failure.

The anonymous outlaws had escaped her. What was the point of wandering any further? Judging by  the trees, the whistle and rustle of the birds and hum of a full creek, Tuppence could only assume she had made it to Helovia. It was a place of magic, or so she had heard.
It would be months before she returned home if she turned back now, so why turn back at all? She could after all be turning away from the theifs doorstep; She knew nothing about Helovians but perhaps they were the culprits. To go home would mean total defeat, and the sliver of hope left in the spotted does belly took her cloven clefts plunging forwards. Tuppence turned her blacked lips  to the sky above the leafy canopy and chanted a promise to her sister.

"I find you" Tuppence declared to the heavens, sharp hazel eyes glaring so fiercely at the sky that even the gods would feel a their bite.
