The duchess inhaled sharply at the sound of gentle lyrics aimed at her. She turned her head sharply, eyes wide with surprise. When her oceanic gaze fell upon the stranger with the kind voice, her demeanor lost none of its shock. The mare before her made her own royal heritage seem like a moth to a butterfly. Her ears, nearly touching at their tips, the prime of her lines, delicately and meticulously bred suddenly meant nothing compared to this stranger's elegant, draconian curves.

Agnodice relaxed after gawking at the mare for a moment, regaining her composure and smiling tenderly at the hybrid, gleaming in what little sun shone through the trees and the diaphanous clouds. Questions began to arise in her mind, bubbling in her lungs, but never escaping her lips. At that moment, it was in her best interest to simply reply.

"I would love some help, thank you," Agnodice replied, her voice light, and strained with forcibly affable tones. She was pleased to have company, that much was true, but she found it so difficult to act amiable with others when she needn't to these days. She was, in truth, a shell of a woman, hardened by brazen, youthful endeavors that sacrificed any pleasantry of her life to the well being of others. Although she did her best to act civil, to play nice, to smile when she could, when the sun set, it was still an act. Within, she was driven only by the pursuit of knowledge, a satisfactory motivation allowing her distance from all she would have cared about if she lacked this desire. But she had spent too long haunted by this apathy for anything else, and willingly chose to continue on with this exquisitely droll, lonely life.

She moved at last, stepping delicately back to the willow tree to strip it of more it's bark, flowers and petals from her hair tailing behind her. Her mind was still captivated by the stranger, by the coexistence of her scales and fur, by the how and why of her existence. "My name is Agnodice, Caretaker of the Hidden Falls,"  She stated, a tired smile on her lips. An introduction for an introduction, she hoped.
