WE ARE THE BEAUTIFUL MISTAKE

Time seems to pass exceedingly slowly. So much so, in fact, that had the filly held her breath for the seasons to pass she'd surely perish. It seemed as though her first birthday had been last week but try as she might to busy herself with any small tasks she could find, Helovia still has yet to find the end of Orangemoon and the beginning of Frostfall. The next Tallsun is still ages away. Of course, if she didn't want to grow up so quickly, so desperately then it would already be here and the girl would be screaming, clinging to the ghostly remains of her childhood. Instead, she longs for adulthood. For the chance to do something bigger, without the persistently overbearing presence of her mother questioning each and every step (which isn't entirely accurate but as a yearling that's precisely how it feels to her).

As darkness settles in, blanketing the land and many of its inhabitants with notions of sleep she watches her mother drift off in slumber while Hemlock disappears into the trees for an early evening hunt (he is an owl, after all; a nocturnal creature). For several moments she tries to sleep, closing her eyes and attempting to quiet her brain to allow the blissful silence of sleep overtake her. But once again, sleep eludes her - dancing just out of reach like some giggling, mischievous little sprite. She lacks the patience to endure it for long this particular evening and soon finds herself slipping quietly away from her small family unit. Petyr, tucked safely in his favorite tree, stays behind - perhaps so that he could keep careful watch over mother and alert the girl to the impending disaster or perhaps because he was simply comfortable. Regardless, Naerys didn't question it nor did she make any attempt to rouse her companion to join her in a nightly trek.

Just as her father before her, she found herself drawn to using the Edge's cliffs as a springboard to launch her into the sky. Especially while the air is fairly calm. She knew enough about her birthplace to know when the action would be ill advised and, to her delight, tonight is not one of those nights. Gleefully she leaps from the cliff with her large wings outstretched. She swoops and soars out over the ocean before once more turning south towards the beach where she'd met her favorite pirate. It was a place of fond memories for her; the seemingly endless stretches of dunes and, during the day, the sea of blue seemingly converges with the sky - consuming yet beautiful. Fortunately, her trip isn't a long one. Before her descent and subsequent landing on the soft sands, eyes of teal give a quick scan of the beach below her from the relative safety of the air.

And that's when she spies them. The first to catch her eye is the pale, lanky figure with... something glinting on its' forehead. The other, more clearly a unicorn, is smaller and a bit darker (though not so dark as Naerys herself). Seeing little of threat in either, the girl circles back around (well before she'd ever come close enough to fly over their heads) to land a comfortable distance away. Promptly folding her feathered wings, she turns back in their direction and shuffles through the soft sands towards them. Her approach is confident, betraying none of her hesitation at being outnumbered, and completely friendly despite her usual quietness. Leaving a respectful gap, the teal eyed girl glanced between the two then offered a gentle smile. "Hello. May I join you?" she inquires, hopeful that she wouldn't be spending this sleepless night on her own. And with her stillness, purple and white passionflowers grow and bloom from the sands around her hooves.

SO I DON'T CARE IF IT KILLS ME TONIGHT
